Testosterone is a sex hormone that plays an essential part in body composition, bone density, brain function, immunity, athletic performance, and fatigue.
Many symptoms of low testosterone occur in both males and females, such as weakness of the bones, lack of interest in sex, mood swings, memory problems, and fatigue. Women can also experience irregular menstrual cycles, whereas men can experience erectile dysfunction. If any of these symptoms resonate with you, it is recommended to check your testosterone levels.
Unfortunately, testosterone decreases with age (dropping by about 1% a year once a man has entered his 30s). It is also associated with genes but above all a range of lifestyle choices and exogenous factors, such as diet, smoking, alcohol, exercise, and medication.
The current screening test is used for androgen dysfunction in men and can give an indication of low testosterone levels.
