Stress Profiling

Stress Profiling

Stress and the endocrine system.

Although some stress is good, continuous activation of our stress systems is not, and, sadly, stress is something most people experience daily: as many as 50% of people report that the stress they undergo at work is so high that they struggle to cope. On top of stress at the workplace, people now have to deal with careers, global pandemics, finances, and education –concerns that our ancestors did not have. This stress becomes maladaptive because our body is not allowed to regenerate. It is when we are in a chronic state of pressure that stress can take a toll on our mental and physical health. When stress takes a toll on the body, this can be visible and quite real for the person. For instance, early aging, bad skin, chronic illnesses, and impoverished mental health. It is also reflected in the endocrine system since this lies at the core of the link between stress and these bodily functions. Burnout is seen in conjunction with an abnormal cortisol secretion pattern, which is why this hormone is of interest for fighting bad stress.

We have included some more technical information in this section about the link between stress and the endocrine system.
